LG 47LG60
The 47 inch LG 47LG60 LCD HDTV was introduced in the fall of 2008. It has a couple of the “scarlet” design accents – red trimmings behind and around the stand of the TV. It is very slim at only 2.7 inches in depth and looks luxurious on its accompanying table stand with the red accents giving a touch of class.
Features
In line with most higher-end HDTVs released this year, the 47LG60 includes 120Hz processing, which LG calls TruMotion. The basic idea is to double the rate at which the moving image is refreshed onscreen, which should clean up blurring in fast-moving objects. LG also adds de-judder processing to smooth out motion, which on this model comes in both Low and High varieties. The LG also has 1080p native resolution and 50,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio .
LG also provided a very complete set of picture adjustments. They have completely overhauled its menu system, and the changes are mostly for the better. Although the black levels are not as deep as the best in the HDTV standards, the available picture adjustments made black levels acceptable.
The LG 47LG60 utilizes a unique speaker system tuned by the renowned audio guru Mark Levinson. It delivers an enhanced audio spectrum using minute vibrations to turn the entire front bezel into a unique invisible speaker system. You will experience a clear natural sounding audio in a wider soundfield. In addition the Clear Voice technology amplifies the human voice automatically to generate a richer and deeper sound.
Additional extras include a USB port that allows the set to display digital photos on the big screen and play music via the speakers. Its Intelligent Sensor technology automatically adjusts brightness according to surrounding light conditions, offering both optimized picture quality as well as a 50 percent reduction in power consumption.
Actual user review:
“OK lets talk about features that some people don’t understand and would like if considering this unit. It has 1080p resolution. Possibly best than can be seen by the human eye. Now here’s where people get misinformed. It has 120Hz Technology. What does that mean? Producers of movies, sporting events, TV shows and alike constantly move the camera. While moving the camera, on a 60hz model you will notice blurriness. It gets quite annoying to say the least, if your watching an action movie. It is not nearly as sharp as what you could possibly be watching. Going with that the 120Hz technology, refreshes the screen faster so images are not blurred. (so much you can actually tell it’s a stunt double). The combination of the 1080, and 120Hz IN THE STORE, is usually under rated by poor wiring. A proper DVI/HDMI cable MUST BE USED to get 100% of the TVs potential. Add this all together, and based on my experience with Digital HDMI Cable, and the 47LG60. I haven’t left the TV. I wish more channels came in HD. It’s like I never REALLY was truly watching TV before this set.” – Z.Sonshine (NJ,USA)
Performance
The picture quality on the LG 47LG60 was quite good, images appeared sharp and vivid. There is, however motion lag present. This is much more noticeable with the True Motion 120Hz switched off. On second thoughts, it is better to leave it off to preserve the realism of the film. The 47LG60 correctly de-interlaced 1080i film-based material in film mode, unlike most HDTVs, and as long as the Sharpness level is kept high enough. It resolved every line of 1,920×1,080 sources.
The LG60 has a matte screen, which made watching dark scenes in a well-lit room a good deal more enjoyable than on glossy displays from Samsung. The matte screen did a great job attenuating ambient light.
- “We purchased this item Dec 11 and it was delivered Tuesday, Dec 16. It is amazing. I feel like the characters in the programs are right in the room with us. The clarity is amazing. This is our third LG HDTV and it is the best. The price on Amazon was a terrific value and included white glove delivery. This was the first time we had anything delivered by Pilot Freight and they were courteous and prompt. They called on Monday, Dec 15 to set up the delivery day and time and worked with our schedule. The driver called and gave us an exact delivery time. We are very satisfied with our purchase.” – C.Reynolds (USA)
- “After a couple of months of researching LCD televisions, I narrowed my search to Sony, Samsung, Visio and LG. I saw models of the first 3 brands that I was interested in, but couldn’t find a store that carried the LG Scarlet, until I visited Conn’s when they were advertising a lower end LG model at a really great price. I was checking that one out and just wasn’t that pleased with it. And then I noticed right above it was the LG 47LG60 Scarlet. It was hands down the most attractive of all the televisions with an awesome picture. So instead of buying at the store, I came home and made my purchase through Amazon.com and couldn’t be more pleased – with the service, with the delivery and best of all with the television.” – S.Cardwell (USA)
