Technical Features
The LG 47LH85 opens up strong with the Full 1080p specification which makes it in-line with the bigger contenders that have the same maximum resolution. It carries all the nice color accuracy traits from the slightly older LG 47H55 which received a lot of praise for its vivid colors. Combined with the high contrast ratio of 80,000:1, shadowy scenes show off more detail than other displays, but the deep blacks could still use a little bit of improvement. Regardless of that, it still manages to impress in connectivity options with 4 HDMI inputs for multiple devices to link easily to the display.
Technologies
Although there isn’t anything new with the technical features, the LG 47LH85 boasts a new Wireless Full HD technology that matches well with LG’s Media Box. With this, Full HD 1080p images can be transmitted to the box without setting up any wire clutter layouts.
The TruMotion technology is also present in the LG 47LH85, but it only supports 120Hz which doesn’t match the other units boasting the 240Hz. This isn’t that bad because motion blurs are still significantly reduced than the low 60Hz models.
Most HDTVs need a lot of calibration before they can be used to their fullest potential. But the LG 47LH85 makes it very easy to calibrate the TV the same way professionals do it using LG’s Picture Wizard. There aren’t many complicated windows to go through and calibration is as easy as matching the picture and setting easy options.
The design of the LG 47LH85 has a color-infused design and the speakers stay hidden yet deliver amazing sound quality through the Invisible Speaker System. Combined with the wireless features, it is very possible to set up a good looking home theater.
Extra Features
A nice extra feature of the 47LH85 is the Intelligent Sensor which helps optimize the picture according to the current room lighting conditions so that the overall experience stays enjoyable. There is also a USB 2.0 port making it possible to load JPEG format photos or MP3 format audio files without the need of an external player.
The true value of the 47LH85 can be unlocked if a media box is purchased because that’s where the nice wireless features come in handy. As a standalone TV, it racks up pretty evenly when pitted against other LG 47 inch models since all of the good technologies are present. It is best to get this particular model if the wireless features will be used.
