Panasonic TC-P46S1

When it comes to HDTVs, size matters to most consumers, but it isn’t as easy as picking any television because most of them look the same or have similar features unless it is a Panasonic TC-P46S1. The Panasonic TC-P46S1 is a plasma TV and most plasma TVs haven’t gotten the recognition that they deserve simply because they consume more power than LCD displays.

However, the new TC-PS1 series attempts to change all that by using a different plasma display panel known as the Neo PDP. This technology paves the future for these new 2009 models by Panasonic.

Technical Features

The Panasonic TC-P46S1 offers full 1080p moving picture resolution even during fast motion scenes where many other 1080p TVs fail to deliver. It has impressive picture quality and really excels in deep black levels because of its 40,000:1 native contrast ratio and 2,000,000 : 1 dynamic contrast ratio. Basically, higher contrast ratios yield more vibrant whites and deeper blacks.

Shadow details are one of  TC-P46S1’s greatest strengths and the color saturation is satisfactory. The color temperature features lack accuracy compared to other LCD displays, but everything else is far more impressive than many of the other plasma displays.

All the other plasma displays made before the Panasonic TC-P46S1 consumed more power making the Panasonic TC-P46S1 a much better pick even over some of the worthy LCD contenders. There are plenty of eco-friendly qualities in this TV making it a great buy and the design still manages to impress and look like the rest of the nice looking TVs. It also has great connectivity options including two component-video inputs and three HDMI ports.

Actual user review:
“I’ve been in the market for a plasma tv for 5+ years and finally decided to pull the trigger. Specifically I have compared Panasonic and Samsung and like the features off both but I have always considered the Panasonic the better of the 2 as far as plasma technology. The 1080p display of this unit in my opinion is unmatched for this price point.” – R.Fournier (USA)

Technologies

The new Neo PDP technology is the real highlight of the Panasonic TC-P46S1 TV and it does more than just consume less energy. The technology is also responsible of its cinema-like quality and breathtaking visuals. The deep blacks are more improved thanks to this technology and the brightness is just about right.

Other nice technologies coming from the older models reappear in the Panasonic TC-P46S1 as well including the VIERA Image Viewer which allows digital photos to be shown on the massive screen. There is an SD card slot that can be used to put SD cards coming from digital cameras and the TV does the rest.

The VIERA Link is also included allowing other Panasonic devices to connect to the TV without much effort. These devices include DVD recorders and Blu-ray Disc players. Sound systems and camcorders can also take advantage of the VIERA Link as well. The benefit of the VIERA Link is that all of the devices can be controlled using a single remote and interface. These devices can also communicate with one another forming a home system network.

Other Features

There is also a game mode which configures the TV to handle gaming with the best visuals and performance as possible without the need of going through different settings. Other than that, the Panasonic TC-P46S1 doesn’t have much to offer in terms of extras.

The Panasonic TC-P46S1 is an excellent value and has all the nice features that define a true cinema experience. It is the best eco-friendly choice if a plasma TV is preferred.
