Panasonic TC-P58V10
When there is a need to purchase a large screen TV for a nice centerpiece of the home theater system, people often get the highest-end LCD TV model which is around 55 inches. Everyone knows that plasma displays exceed the LCD displays by a good margin extending above 60 inches, but these models are too expensive and LCD displays are evolving in features. There are also some plasma displays like the Panasonic TC-P58V10 that are only slightly larger than the LCD counterparts and are still a bit costly. However, this model is packed with features and aims to make a lasting impression to anyone that is looking for a TV display that offers amazing image quality whether it is playing games, watching movies, or checking out local high-definition TV content.

Panasonic Viera TC-P58V10
Design
The Panasonic TC-P58V10 looks great measuring 58 inches diagonally and sports some elegance with a fairly bright silver fade on the bottom of the bezel. While it looks similar to the smaller models of the V10 series, it lacks the swivel stand that is exclusive to the 50-inch model and the single pane of glass does not cover the bezel the same way it does with the 50-inch and 54-inch model. This still doesn’t eliminate the fact that it is a highly attractive TV to look at.
Image Quality
It is also highly attractive when the TV is turned on no matter what viewing angle thanks to its adherence to HDTV color standards and because of its wide color viewing angle that keeps the amazing vivid color quality the same no matter the size of the living room. Black areas do not fade either and the AR filter contributes by reducing reflections for pure imagery every time.
In fact, the deep black level quality is one of the amazing aspects of the Panasonic TC-P58V10 which sports an infinite black dynamic contrast ratio beyond 2,000,000:1 and 40,000:1 native contrast ratio. It makes use of the new Neo PDP technology for better energy savings and thinner profile while yielding the same color and deep black quality as OLED displays. This makes them 50% brighter than older models at the same power consumption and the Real Black Drive system works with it for even better black levels.
The motion quality doesn’t disappoint either as the unit houses a 600 Hz sub-field drive to eliminate blur when high speed scenes are shown. Movies get a boost in quality too with the 24p cinematic playback so Blu-ray films can be viewed just the way movie makers intended them to be viewed. All of these good qualities give it the THX certification.
Actual user review:
“I’ve had this Panasonic TC P58V10 for a little over 2 weeks now, and I’m extremely pleased with it. I was debating between the 58″ and the 65″ model, but I’m very happy with the size of this one. Originally, I had purchased the Samsung UN55B7000 55-Inch 1080p LED tv, but took it back after a week. After a while, the Samsung was just unwatchable and looked cartoonish and uneven in the backlighting. I’m happy to say I have no issues with the Panasonic. The picture is just gorgeous and it does a fantastic job on everything from blu-ray to HD cable and a nice job upscaling the SD cable material too. The picture is jaw-dropping good, and the customization possibilities are very nice. The ONLY issue I have is that in THX mode, you get some edge noise on comcast cable HD stations because Panasonic won’t let you switch the HD Size mode to get rid of the green edge band when using THX mode. So… I watch cable in “Custom” mode and I can switch to HD Size 1 to get rid of the edge noise. On DVD or Blu-ray, I can use THX mode and it looks fantastic. I wrote Panasonic about allowing the HD Size mode to be switched when in THX mode, but I haven’t heard back yet from them. Note that this problem in no way will affect your enjoyment of the TV, other than the minor annoyance of switching between “Custom” mode for cable and “THX” mode for everything else. I tried the Viera Cast stuff (You Tube, etc) and it’s OK, but not something I would pay extra for if I had a choice. It’s interesting for about 20 mins, and then the hunting and pecking to search for content gets annoying. Overall, I love the TV and I’m glad this is the choice I made. I don’t think there is a better flat screen between 55″ and 60″ on the market and I looked at all of them extensively.” – J.Bailey (USA)
Sound Quality
It also gets the THX certification for good sound quality as well and has a technology of its own called the BBE ViVA High Definition 3D technology. This works best in larger living rooms as the sound carries itself further than stereo quality without any noticeable reduction in clarity.
Connectivity
The Panasonic TC-P58V10 is also rich in connectivity as well with full access to the web through Ethernet in a friendly panel-driven system called VIERA CAST that can easily be brought up from the remote control. The interface already displays useful information including the weather and stock information. Other areas can be visited like YouTube and Picasa for more entertainment. Some paid content can be accessed through the Amazon Video on Demand service where movies can be previewed before they are purchased.
Three HDMI ports can be found on the back and an addition port on the side giving a lot of possibilities for other Panasonic devices to take advantage of the VIERA LINK feature that lets the same remote control to be used to control all of the other home theater devices. It is also useful to connect gaming consoles to enjoy top 1080p performance especially when the “Game Mode” is activated.
There is also an SD card slot that can read standard SD cards and SDHC cards as well. Formats supported include JPEGs in their 1080p quality and AVCHD making it possible for camcorder users to view content with ease. The VIERA image viewer can present these JPEGs in cool ways allowing 4 different display effects to be applied and 3 background music presets.
The THX certification along with the amazing black-level performance make this one of the best 58-inch plasma models around and definitely shows that plasma technology is still applicable to 2010 home entertainment.

- “My TV arrived Friday and in the short time I’ve had it, Im extremely impressed. I’ve seen the latest samsung LED at a friends house, as well as LG’s competing 60″ at another friend’s house and this Panasonic is clearly better than each (which I’ll keep to myself). Im a big sports fan and football, baseball, ESPN looks absolutely amazing on this. The quality of the picture is clearly up to the source of the broadcast. I have not been able to watch any blu-ray on it yet, but just from watching HBO’s HDTV sunday night broadcasts, this thing looks amazing. If you like the animated look of some of the LCD/LED 120Hz then this TV isn’t for you. Im not really into that and prefer the solid cinema look this TV has. I came from an older 50″ Sony projection HDTV and have another panasonic 42px80 something or other and this blows that away too. I would get it again. If you’re considering getting it, do it.” – C.Cruz (USA)
- “This tv exceeds all of my expectations in every possible way! The picture is just drop dead georgeous! And it has none of the many issues that lcd’s have, especially with regard to motion sickness…Since I already own two Samsung LCD’s, which both have very nice pictures, but do have motion issues at 60hz., they have been relegated to lesser usage in my bedrooms. If one can love an inanimate object, I love this TV! Just for the record, I ended up with the 58 inch and although my wife thought that would be to big, even she now agrees that the size is perfect. Not to big, not to small. She too, is a very happy camper. Did I mention that I really love this TV’s picture? I just don’t think it can get any better than this, so what are you waiting for? Go get it!” – R.Stucke (USA)
