With a 1080p display resolution and 16:9 widescreen, the 37 inch Panasonic TC37LZ85 makes watching movies in your home a joy. It is one of two 37 inch LCD HD televisions in this series. While the cheaper of the two 37 inch models, it includes all the features expected from an up to date HDTV.

The Panasonic TC37LZ85 comes with 1080p native resolution and 10,000 to 1 dynamic contrast ratio. It offers excellent picture quality for its price. It also has compatible signal format from 480p to 1080p and retains screen uniformity even when viewed from acute angles. In addition, it boasts great connectivity with 3 HDMI inputs, 2 component-video inputs and an SD card slot viewing your digital photos. With Panasonic’s proprietary VIERA Link, you can control your compatible Panasonic DVD recorder, Blu-ray player, home theater system and HD camcorder all with a single remote.

Performance

The Panasonic TC37LZ85 performs well during dark scenes. When compared to other 37 inch televisions, it distinguishes itself with good shadow details. However,color accuracy leaves much to be desired. Despite the primary colors being really close to HD standard, it has too much of a reddish tint to certain skin tones.

The built-in SD memory card slot allows you to instantly display your digital photos, either in random order or as a slide show. Digital photos appear extremely clear with no overscan or edge enhancement. You can also watch videos that were recorded on your Panasonic HD camcorder.

Conclusion

The TC37LZ85’s video quality is decent but the sound from the TV’s tiny 10 watt speakers will not be able to reproduce the thunderous soundrack of some movies. The 37″ screen is the perfect size for those who want to have a decent viewing area but do not want something that takes up too much space. Though color accuracy may not be perfect, its great connectivity and ease of use, combined with decent picture quality makes the Panasonic TC37LZ85 a reasonable mid-range LCD television.
