Samsung LN46C630
High-definition televisions have changed the way people look at TVs. Previously in standard-definition televisions, people had to watch from a distance equivalent to around 3 to 6 times the size of the unit. Now, these people can go much closer to the TV and still enjoy the rich details. Those that wish watch from 6 to 12 feet away should consider getting a 46-inch model. 46-inch TVs used to be a bit pricey, but now Samsung is introducing the Samsung LN46C630 which strives to combine value with affordability.

Samsung LN46C630
Technical Features
The Samsung LN46C630 offers the full picture boasting 1080p high-definition so people can watch high-definition content or play the latest to get the most immersive experience. The large display can show off deep blacks rather well thanks to its 120,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio specification. It also features 4 HDMI ports so Blu-ray players and modern gaming consoles can connect directly to the TV without additional wires. Gamers can even enhance both the image and sound quality by using the “Game Mode” feature.
On the design-end, nothing really groundbreaking is featured, but the overall design is sleek as expected with any Samsung product. Gone is the curvy bottom that was previously featured in older models and the Red Touch of Color appears to be missing as well. What matters most is that the screen isn’t as reflective as other models because it has a semi-matte finish. The Touch of Color design remains, but Charcoal Grey is used as the color now.
Another thing that matters is the power consumption because expenses can still pile up even if the TV isn’t that expensive. Getting a TV that is both expensive and is light on power consumption converts to maximum savings. The Samsung LN46C630 takes its power conservation features to new heights exceeding the Energy Star 4.0 standards by around 43%. The overall sound quality is also good since it supports DNSe which is considered as an advancement compared to traditional stereo sound.
Technologies
The Samsung LN46C630 is not really made for the high-end audience, but there are a few attractive technologies squeezed into this attractive package. Blu-ray lovers can rejoice because Samsung’s 120 Hz Clear Motion Rate adds some emphasis to fast-action scenes by eliminating blur. Higher-end models now feature 240 Hz which is groundbreaking, but 120 Hz should be enough for ordinary consumers to enjoy.
This technology works together with the Wide Color Enhancer Pro technology which contributes by keeping the colors rich and natural. Samsung Blu-ray players that feature the BD Wise technology pair up well with the LN46C630 because it features the BD Wise technology as well. This means that the image looks improved and the sound quality is more developed.
“This TV’s awesome! I tried an LG 42LH40 and a Sony 46EX400 and I didn’t like either. This TV blows them away! The colors are beautiful, the picture is sharp, the blacks are very good for an LCD, and viewing angles are pretty good. The sound is pretty impressive for a flat panel TV as well. This TV has a simplistic yet very good looking design, i’m glad it doesn’t have that ugly red touch of color on it. The TV is very well built, all the parts on it seem like they’re really high quality, the back of the TV is even made of metal instead of plastic and the stand is glass. The LG I had seemed really cheaply made and the stand was really generic and wobbly. I can’t comment on the Auto Motion Plus as i’m not a big fan of image interpolation software. I highly recommend this TV to anyone looking for a TV in the $900-$1200 price range.” – Bryan Nitz (Milan,IL,USA)
Extra Features
The LN46C630 is really meant for people that want to have a fairly large display and good overall quality without too many bells and whistles. However, Samsung incorporates some nifty extras that primarily benefit those that have various devices scattered within the home.
Those that have a few spare flash drives or an external drive and can plug it directly to one of the two USB ports found on the side of the TV. Any common image, video, and audio formats can be read and played back on the TV without any need for additional hardware. Other competing models that have USB ports have this functionality too, but Samsung manages to be unique by topping it off with a nice user interface called ConnectShare Movie.
The AllShare feature extends the connectivity possibilities by allowing connections to computers and laptops to be established via Ethernet cable. There is neither wireless option nor support for wireless USB dongles, but wireless routers are supported so all it takes is an Ethernet cable from the TV to the router so the TV can stream wirelessly from computers and other DLNA-supported devices. Any other HDMI-connected devices can also benefit from the Anynet+ feature requiring just one remote to control them all.
Bottom Line
It would have been nice if the Samsung LN46C630 featured some Internet capabilities, but that is what the other new C650 series is for. This model is more targeted towards people that prefer a balanced TV that does not have any shortcomings.
Actual User Reviews:
• “Firstly, it’s important to point out that I was shopping strictly for a high quality 1080p display. I have a home theater with external speakers and an advanced learning remote so the TV’s audio quality and stock remote played an insignificant role in my decision to purchase this model. Now then, the LN46C630 was the best 46″ 1080p display I could find that had all the features I was looking for. My criteria were for a model with 120hz, an adequate amount of HDMI inputs (4), a pc input, largely tweakable picture controls, excellent black levels, an absence of motion blur, and a cost of under $1000. This TV possesses all of those things, and beat out the competition of similar LG and Sony models because of what I deemed to be the cleanest, most well defined image, along with superior black levels. The only thing I felt lacking on this TV was the screen texture which is more prone to glare. Though, because my room is quite dark that was of no real concern either, but could be to others with more ambient light in there viewing room.” – J. Hopkins (Dallas,TX,USA)
• “I have been using this TV for over a month now and everything is good about it so far.
The only thing that I would have loved in this TV was to have the Samsung Internet@TV feature, where I could directly watch You Tube videos, Netflix etc, but this TV does not have this feature, unlike some other high-end Samsung HDTVs. That was disappointing. I wish I had spend a couple of hundred dollars more and got a model with Internet@TV feature.
But, you can still hook up this TV to your wireless router at home and stream videos and pictures from your PC/Laptop wirelessly.
Also, the sound quality is not so good. That is because the speakers are located in the rear.
I am planning to buy the Samsung Blue-Ray 5.1 channel home theatre system with the Internet@TV feature, and that would take care of everything that is lacking in this TV that I would like to have.
If you are not looking for advanced features, but a very good reliable TV with great picture quality, this is a very good buy for the money.” – Andy (Chicago,IL,USA)
