Samsung UN46B6000
Samsung is best known for their amazing line-up of large screen LCD displays and now they continue their success with another series which is the UN series and the Samsung UN46B6000 is part of the budget series. These series have many favorite features that are present in other LCD TVs, but the UN series are labeled as “eco-friendly” having impressive power saving features. What really makes these new Samsung products standout is that they do not fall under the LCD TV category at all.
These UN models are actually LED TVs that are much thinner and have better quality than all the other displays released before this series. The Samsung UN46B6000 along with plenty of other higher models will soon make their ways to the mainstream market aiming to bring huge money savings while bringing top of the line quality.

Technical Features
The Samsung UN46B6000 falls in the “Series 6” line-up which happens to be the most basic of the LED TVs, but still manages to fuse brilliant picture quality in a very thin 1080p display. Samsung delivers in all the major “C” areas which are color, contrast, and clarity. The contrast impresses well with a massive 3,000,000:1 contrast ratio allowing pure blacks and pristine whites to be more recognized. Virtually any scene from any movie should be seen with total clarity with this model.
When active, the Samsung UN46B6000 consumes around 40 percent less power than the LCD models. This is a huge feature because Samsung’s existing LCD models have boasted in the past on how well these models save power. They are also currently the most environmental TV displays released to date because of the lack of lead and mercury. It is finally possible to leave a smaller carbon footprint just by relaxing and watching TV. Just like many of the older models, the UN46B6000 is Energy Star compliant.
Actual user review:
“The main thing about this Samsung TV is that the picture is unbelievably rich and vibrant! (So much so that it takes a little getting use to.) The clarity is so good that it is actually distracting to me. But as an example, I was re-watching Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl and I couldn’t stop noticing the lines on the actors’ faces, individual blades of grass, creases in fabric, and all sorts of other subtle details long enough to pay attention to the actual movie! The Samsung TV is incredibly thin. This was one of the things that really drew my attention to this TV when I was doing my comparative shopping. Flat panel TV’s are an order of magnitude thinner than their larger CRT cousins, but this Samsung TV takes the thinness to a whole new level.” – D.Courtney (FL,USA)
Technologies
The famous “Auto Motion Plus 120 Hz” technology that has made a large number of LCD models popular also makes an appearance in the budget LED model. This technology is unlike the other motion interpolation processes by other competitors because it effectively eliminates all of the motion blur rather than reducing it making pictures a lot clearer and smoother. It is a perfect feature to enjoy if you like watching high-speed action movies or sports channels.
The InfoLink RSS Service is part of this model as well which makes use of an Internet connection via Ethernet or wireless for fetching statistics on the stock market, weather, news, and other useful information. Not much has changed here, but it is definitely a welcome feature for the “6 series”.
The visual design of the TV is nothing short of impressive and the eye-catching “Touch of Color” is applied to every UN46B6000 using a different color this time – Amber.
Extra Features
Samsung generously incorporates 4 HDMI ports to the UN46B6000 making it really easy to connect all sorts of devices, Blu-ray players, and HD cable boxes without much of a huge hassle. The game mode also makes a return making it handy for gamers to pick up too.
The Samsung UN46B6000 is an excellent performing unit that saves more power and packs more of a punch. For a budget model, this has to be one of the most impressive TVs Samsung has to offer.
- “My requirement for a television is quite simple: plug it in to the cable box and have it work the first time; then turn on the sports event of the day, e.g. Mets or Yankees, Jets or Giants, etc. The Samsung 46 inch LED TV does that very well. You plug it in, it works. This TV does more with less. It weighs only about 40 pounds plus another 10 pounds for the stand. Compare that with the older Samsung 950 model of the same size which weighs 70 pounds. The elegant stand allows for easy rotation. The TV is only a little over one inch thick! Power consumption has been measured by reviewers at about 105 watts. The 950 model comes in at 180 watts. The picture is great. The contrast ratio, rated at 3,000,000 to 1, exceeds that of older LCD TVs. The black areas are dark and the picture has an almost 3D quality. The screen surface does reduce reflections but does not eliminate them entirely. The black frame is shiny and does also reflect some light. Rotating the screen to the best angle helps.” – P.Moskowitz (NY,USA)
- “Awesome! My old TV is a 5 year old HD ready (1080i) old style rear CRT projection, so I guess I’ve got no real comparison, but this new LCD (using LED for light) is awesome! The only really bizarre thing is that the motion looks so smooth, kind of like when you see a soap opera on TV. Other reviewers have commented on this, and this TV’s only 120Hz, the 240Hz must look really strange. I’m getting used to it, and haven’t bothered fiddling with the “Auto Motion Plus 120Hz” tuning features. Been playing some Fallout 3 with my xBox 360… legendary!” – T.Lockwood (CO,USA)
