Screen

The UN55D6300 features a 55-inch full-HD 1080p LED screen with Auto Motion Plus 120Hz. Auto Motion Plus is Samsung’s proprietary frame smoothing technology that interprets the images and inserts a calculated image between frames. The result is very smooth, non-repetitive transitions between frames producing a stunningly clear picture. Blur is almost eradicated and clarity is unmatched.

One of the challenges of HDTV’s is to minimize reflection on their expansive screens. Samsung UN55D6300’s Ultra Clear Panel feature eliminates reflections while cranking up contrast. Cabinet

As an LED, the UN55D6300 is more energy efficient than non-LED designs like CCFL-style cabinets. CCFL lighting consists of long thick tubes that create the light source in the cabinet. Because LED lights are small and compact, Samsung is able to create an ultra-thin cabinet that is only an inch deep from front to back. The bezel itself is only ½-inch across, maximizing the picture real estate and impact.

Set-Up

You’ll need to take care with setting up the UN55D6300 on the stand or wall mount due to the incredibly small screws Samsung uses. They actually seem too small for this screen size. But, at just over 39 pounds, it is very light for a 55-inch TV.

One safe strategy is to remove all the accessories from box and attach the stand while the 6300 is still in the box. If that doesn’t work, you need a safe place to lay the TV while attaching the stand.

Since “Scream 4” is in the theaters currently, we decided the new “Scream 2” Blu-ray edition was a timely choice to check out Samsung UN55D6300’s picture in action. A slasher pic is a great test of an LED backlit HDTV – you can examine black levels in a number of dark scenes as well as review shadow detail.

The UN55D6300 has SRS TheaterSound available – this is an audio suite that monitors volume levels, clarifies muddled vocals and adds depth to flat sound areas of TV and movie soundtracks.

SRS squeezes the realism out of the twin 10-watt speakers, while Dolby Digital Plus and Multi-channel sound (MTS) further enhance the sound presentation. It handled the loud, chaotic scenes and well as the quieter moments of “Scream 2” with equal aplomb.
