The Samsung UN60D6400 is a 3D capable, true 60 inch LED HDTV projecting in full 1080p.  The set comes with a plethora of options from 3D support, 2D to 3D conversion, Internet browsing and Internet media streaming selectable via a centralized control page or Smart Hub.  The picture presentation is enhanced with a reflection reducing LCD Screen with LED edge backlighting.

Sound

The UN60D6400’s down firing twin 15-watt speakers use SRS TheaterSound to project a thoroughly immersive audio experience from the bottom of the cabinet and into the room.  With its Clear Voice preset sound mode, you can boost dialog over other audio components during viewing.  It also has auto volume leveler to reduce audio spiking during advertisements and channel scanning.  The speakers are located in the rear of the cabinet.

Internet Applications

The Samsung Apps you can access with this Smart TV will keep you entertained and well connected via the Internet.  The Samsung UN60D6400 can be connected to your home network via its Ethernet cable connection port on the rear or wirelessly by using Samsung’s Wi-Fi USB dongle (sold separately).  Samsung’s Smart Hub provides a centralized screen as a jumping off point to the rest of your 2D or 3D adventures in streaming music, video or social applications.

Cabinet

The UN60D6400 is 1.5 inches thick when wall mounted.  The large Ultra Clear Panel 60 inch screen is has a thin cabinet that creates the impression of a window or picture frame when viewing the HDTV on the wall.  The Ultra Clear Panel reduces glare and reflections from ambient lighting to increase your viewing clarity.  The set has a small footprint even when mounted on a stand.  It will sit slightly over 13 inches deep when using the matching swivel stand.  At 50.5 pounds without a stand and a full 54.1 inches wide you will need two people to safely move and position the set on the wall.

Set-Up

The included remote control features Samsung’s Anynet+.  Anynet+ enables you to control other connected Samsung devices supporting Anynet+ with the UN60D6400 television’s remote control.  Using the included quick start guide and the set’s intuitive menu displays the Samsung UN60D6400 can be configured and enjoyed within minutes of un-boxing your new television.  The set works with Samsung SSG-3100GB 3D Active Glasses which are not included with the purchase of the set.  Some online merchants are offering impressive discounts on these glasses when you buy them in pairs.

• “The picture is absolutely stunning. I upgraded from a 50′ Samsung DLP that I’d had for about 7 years. I truly didn’t realize what I was missing with the technology advancements of 1080P LCDs and LEDs over the last few years. My wife and I will be watching HDTV in either 1080i or 720p and look at each other and say this doesn’t look like “normal” TV. We finally figured it out last night. Watching a Blu-ray is almost like watching a video game. The frame rate and clarity are so much improved over previous generation sets that it really gives you a whole new movie-watching experience. Blu-rays might take some getting used to for me because they are so life-like that I tend to just stare in awe rather than paying attention to the movie.

The 3D function of the television also blew me away. I really wasn’t sure what to expect here, but took a leap of faith because the price was so incredible. Not only does the 3D create depth when you are watching 3D blu-rays. The picture actually comes at you as if you were in the theater. So far the only experiences I’ve had with 3D are with a couple of the IMAX 3D blu-rays that I purchased on Amazon. The 2D to 3D function is a bit gimmicky. I’ve used it to watch baseball games and the NHL playoffs and it does add a little depth to the picture, but probably not enough difference for me to have to wear the glasses all the time.

The one knock against LED televisions has been black levels. While I do notice that the blacks are not quite as deep as other TVs, it really is overshadowed by the beauty and clarity of the rest of the picture.” – Jeff H. (USA)
