3D content for HDTVs is becoming more and more available.  But with the Samsung UN60D7000 you don’t have to wait.  The set can convert any of your 2D video to a decent 3D presentation.  You will need to buy a pair of Bluetooth connected Samsung 3D Active shutter glasses since none ship with the set.  No other 3D glasses will work with this set.  The 15,000,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio produces sharp colors and contrast.  That full 60 inch screen is powered by both Auto Motion Plus 240Hz with Clear Motion Rate for clearer video motion and a LED Edge Lighting with Microdimming to deliver a higher picture contrast and deeper black levels.  The bezel on this TV is a slender 0.2-inch thin. At first you may not think this is a big deal, but when you view 3D movies or videos on the set it really makes a difference.  Since the screen is nearly edge-to-edge it’s as if there is a frame-free mirror in front of you and the characters appear as if they pop right out of the mirror.  Images are crisp, clear, and bright. The 3D effects are absolutely stunning and it really makes movies come to life.  Samsung’s Ultra Clear Panel absorbs the ambient light in your viewing area which eliminates reflections from lamps or windows.  This also lends towards better contrast and deeper blacks for crisper images.

Sound

The UN60D7000’s two 15-watt speakers use SRS TheaterSound HD to provide full sound depth and audio brilliance.  The SRS TruDialog function allows you to increase voice audio over background music or sound effects to hear the spoken word clearly.

Internet Applications

For Internet Apps, Samsung provides access to all the top line apps and media streaming providers.   The Samsung UN60D7000 can be wired or wirelessly connected to your home network for Internet access.  With Samsung’s Smart Hub feature you can start video, audio, and Internet apps from the centralized screen.  You can send all your friends real time updates over Twitter, Facebook or Google Talk while watching your show using Samsung’s free Social TV app.

Cabinet

The UN60D7000 is only 1.5 inches thick on the wall.  The large 60 LED-LCD screen is surrounded by an ultra slim bezel that is virtually unnoticeable when viewing the screen.  The bezel is only 0.2-inches thin!  It will sit a little over 14 inches deep when using the included 10 degree swivel stand.  While you aren’t going to move this TV from room to room like a portable set, it still is fairly lightweight for its size.  However, have someone assist to when mounting the TV on the wall since it weighs about 51 pounds without a stand and is nearly 54.5 inches wide.

Set-Up

The UN60D7000 ships with a standard remote but includes a voucher for their QWERTY keyboard remote.  One side contains the TV style controls while the other side has the keyboard and display window for text entries to your on screen social apps or the browser.  The remote senses which side is up and deactivates the other side.  With the included quick start guide and remote you can have the Samsung UN60D7000 configured and operational in minutes.   Start at the Smart Hub to examine or try all the features Samsung has packed into this HDTV.  People who have a log of DLNA-Enabled digital devices are delighted with Samsung’s AllShare feature.  AllShare allows you to sync up your DLNA-enabled digital devices so you can watch and listen to music, movies and photos on the 60-inch screen.  The set is Wi-Fi enabled so you can easily connect to your home wireless network too.

Connections

All connections are behind the right side of the panel for the UN60D7000 and are easily reached.  They include four HDMI inputs, HDTV antenna RF connector, composite and component video connections. There is also PC connection; Ethernet jack and a digital audio optical connection available.  Three USB ports are included for digital media players or thumb drives to instantly play mpeg video, jpg images or mp3 formatted audio.  Samsung’s included ConnectShare Movie feature provides this instant on capability from any USB drive.

Energy Star

The set is Energy Star compliant which is important in this day when we all are looking to diminish wasteful use of resources.  Other non-Energy Star models of TVs in this price range and screen size use anywhere from $31 to $79 of electricity each year of normal viewing.  The estimated annual yearly energy cost for the set is $21.  You can’t take your best guy or girl to the cinema to watch a single movie for $21 with popcorn and drinks, but this Samsung will provide you with a full year of sensational viewing entertainment for pennies.
