Sharp LC-60E77UN

Finding your very own HDTV display should be as simple as determining your ideal size and then go for the display that is nearest to your budget. However, not all displays of the same size may be worth the total expenses. Some displays have similar features under different names while others simply cost a few dollars more without any major reason. Then there are companies like Sharp that gives so many different purchasing options so you can really choose a model that best fits your needs.

Even if your needs reach beyond the size of a normal HDTV, Sharp provides a number of quality AQUOS models that hit different price points. The electronics giant currently offers several 60-inch displays to choose from. While their high-end models look quite attractive, they are not for everyone especially if you do not need extras like 3D support or Internet connectivity. Other 60-inch displays have some unique image enhancing technologies but they add to the expenses as well. The goal of the Sharp LC-60E77UN is to bring you that large-scale experience without draining your pocket.

Features

The Sharp LC-60E77UN is really designed fit in your large living room. It has the massive 60-inch display which is great for watching Blu-ray movies or watching just about any high-definition TV shows in 1080p. The rest of the features are pretty barebones with nothing really special but nothing below average either. The ASV Superlucent LCD Panel does what it needs to do and the response time is kept at 4ms. Unlike the pricier models, the LC-60E77UN has a hint of brown color on the bottom part of the bezel which makes the display stand out a bit more.

One nice thing about this particular display is that it does not cut every single corner just to keep the price down. The large display still provides a 4 HDMI ports so you can still set up a lively home theater experience. In fact, one of the HDMI ports is best reserved for Blu-ray player which can possibly add some of the features that are missing from your display. You can then go on and hook up any modern gaming console so you can enjoy a 1080p gaming experience and possibly a portable HD device or two for quick previewing. It also has 4 RCA audio inputs, a pair of 1080p compatible HD component inputs and two composite video inputs. A 15-pin D-sub port is also available so you can hook up the display to any PC or laptop if you have the cable. It even has support for the older S-Video interface.

Sharp makes sure that you can view the LC-60E77UN’s large display without any serious visibility issues. If there is a lot of ambient light, you may not be able to see the display very clearly no matter how large it is forcing you to adjust the settings. The difference with the LC-60E77UN is that the Optical Picture Control does these adjustments for you automatically. This means that you can setup the TV quickly and even enjoy analog TV channels and DTV content since it comes with an embedded ATSC/QAM/NTSC tuner.

Actual user review:
After looking at many different types of 55″ to 60″ and 65″ TV’s and compare with them side by side. I find this Sharp LCD tv that has the most vidid color, true black, white, red, green and yellow. It may be the last years model but it is by far better than the new LED/LCD models, the color does not bleed in fast action movies, it stay clear, the colors are natual, the eyes, skin tone are sharp when playing blue ray DVD movies at 1080p and also running HD channels. Love the TV and the price. Keep up the good work Sharp. I do not recommend the new Sharp model with the quadtron colors. The technology is still new and it has not been pefected yet! Maybe it’ll get better overtime.” – Rancho (USA)

Technologies

The LC-60E77UN was designed in such a way that you can place the display in any spot in the house even if it is near a window or door because the brightness levels are good enough to keep the picture vivid in any lighting condition. It uses a special technology called the Spectral Contrast Engine XD to attain some exceptional deep black levels and improved contrast management. It functions with the Active Contrast and Active Color features so improve the depth especially when viewing brighter scenes.

The 120 Hz Fine Motion Enhanced affects the actual motion of the image so visuals look smoother than displays without the technology. This feature is great if you are into gaming or watching sports or action flicks. You can even activate the Vyper Drive if you want to optimize the reaction time as well.

Many customers like the display despite the missing extras because the price tag falls below $2,000 and it still has the essentials and unique design. This is an example of a display where 60 inches matter the most and the Sharp LC-60E77UN has all of the enhancements that keep this display above average.

After all the searches, reviews, comparisons, etc., I finally decided on getting this LCD TV from Amazon; they had the best price & shipping was free! (I believe it was Electronics Expo that sold it through them)…anyway, I’m sooooo incredibly satisfied with this TV! Picture is absolutely stunning, The TV is so massive that you’d think that you are watching a 70” TV! What everyone says about the gold bezel is true; you have to be in extremely bright light & close-up to notice it; otherwise the TV looks all black under normal light. I wish the menus were a little bit more complex i.e. more features; it seems a little simplified for me. I Googled different calibration settings & basically mimicked one that I found for another Aquos 55″ that came out after this one. It came out perfect. All in all, I have to say that I’m really very satisfied with my purchase. Also, Aquos cust. serv. is top notch & they guided me through some connectivity issues I was having…folks, this is a $3,000 TV that, If you are one of the lucky ones, you can get it here for almost half off; definitely worth it…” – Luis E. I have owned this Tv for a few weeks now. I am very happy with my purchase. The TV was in perfect condition when I took it out of the box, it took two of us to put it on the stand of course. The box lifts up and the TV is packed very well in styerphone. They called and set up the delievery time, they arrived on time. I am very happy with the apperance, I have it on a black smoke glass stand.Looks like they were made for each other. We have surround sound installed in our house when it was built, very happy that I had no problem hooking it up to the reciever. If I did not have the reciever with the surround sound, I am not sure I would be happy with the sound. Overall I am happy with my purchase. ” – Daisy (Florida)

The sound was dissappointing at first. Then we got HD channels and blu ray, suddenly the sound livened up and sparkled. Our room is 20 X 20 and we have the sound about 1/3 the way up most of the time. There is not much bass response as I knew before purchasing. The flat panels are known for lacking bass. Maybe an audio system later, happy for now though.

Personally I like the gold bezel, which really is like a light bronze imbedded into the black frame at the bottom that gives the illusion of a reflection of wood, pretty ingenious. To me the exterior looks better than most, which was important to my wife. The remote is ok, not great. I also got the sharp blu ray player that is nice, but slow to load. I think a lot of blu rays may be slow, not sure. Over all this TV is huge, if you have to sit as close as 8ft, go smaller. We sit at the 10′ to 14′ range and it’s sharp, super bright and very colorful. Also, we sit about 5′ to the left and right of center and there is no noticable degradation. I had no need to adjust the colors or pay someone to tune it. It came great tuned right out of the box, just like it should. I turn the brightness down at night because it can hurt your eyes, which is great! You can always dim a bright tv, but not visa versa. There is a setting for auto adjustments that take care of all that. Fairly easy to navigate the menu settings. You do get some motion blur during panning as with all LCD/LEDs. Some people don’t notice, some do and don’t care and some are really bothered by it. I have no regrets, if it holds up, my family and I will be thrilled. ” – Tely (LA United States)
