Sharp LC-60LE925UN
Sharp is one of the oldest innovators in the electronics industry and they are making huge contributions in display technology most notably stereoscopic 3D. While the electronics is not yet ready to take the technology to their big screen AQUOS displays, they are still entering the 3D fray by showing off some uniquely designed LED systems. The Sharp LC-60LE925UN is the current 2010 flagship model in the 3D category which sports a very large display and plenty of features to support the display’s rather heavy price tag.

Features
Because the Sharp LC-60LE925UN’s X-Gen LCD Panel uses Edge lit LED technology, the display quite thin measuring just over an inch and a half. The 60-inch size makes it possible to display visuals in the full 1920 x 1080 resolution. It has a very high 8,000:000:1 contrast ratio which makes it even greater than some of the current plasma displays today.
It also has 4 HDMI ports which allows a good combination of Blu-ray players, media players, and gaming consoles to be hooked up. The HD component and composite videos are limited to 1 each but if there are still free HDMI ports, portable devices can plug in whenever needed too.
The LC-60LE925UN is one of the environmentally conscious displays where the main goal is to consume less energy. In addition to meeting the Energy Star standards, the LC-60LE925UN’s operation life is extended which is necessary for a device priced this high. From the packaging to LCD panels, this TV is associated with green.
Technologies
Thanks to the very high dynamic contrast ratio, the Sharp LC-60LE925UN produces great 3D visuals. The two pairs of 3D glasses are included in the package and work nicely with the display. The Quattron 3D technology is the display’s unique backing which manages to generate some vivid 3D visuals by reducing the crosstalk blurs. There is even a special feature that allows you to enjoy the 3D visuals while others watching the same screen continue watching in 2D. The display technologies are applied to 2D visuals as well so the experience is still compelling.
One reason behind the 2D and 3D performance lies on its proprietary Quattron Quad Pixel Technology. While most displays stick with the red, green, and blue primary colors, this technology adds the yellow color to the mix so the color gamut is significantly expanded. This works very well with the X-Gen LCD panel which helps blocks the light so images look darker and more natural. It also utilizes the UV2A technology which enables high aperture ratio which helps minimize the energy consumption without affecting the visual experience.
Video games and any movies and sports that have fast moving images can look a lot smoother with the display’s AquoMotion 240 technology. It is actually a combination of the 120Hz Fine Motion Advanced Technology featured in other models and 120-backlight scanning. This optimizes both the refresh rate and smoothens out the frame rate by adding more frames. You can also activate the Vyper Drive game mode so there is no more noticeable lag between your display and its connected gaming console.
Extra Features
All of the Internet features present in the LC-60LE925UN revolve around the AQUOS Net feature. After you complete a short setup procedure, you will be greeted with a customized selection of links where you can access various news sources and check for sports, weather, and games updates. If you have a Netflix subscription, you can take full advantage by streaming the Netflix content for enjoyment without depending on other devices. You can also rent or buy movies directly from Vudu on demand or take advantage of the free features so you can see content coming from Twitter, Facebook, and Flickr. A wireless USB adapter is included so wireless connections are immediately possible.
The USB port can also be used to read the contents of flash drives. This port is a lot more functional than ordinary LCD displays as it supports DivX HD formats so you can basically copy a high definition video to your drive and play it immediately without worrying about connecting a DVD or Blu-ray player. It can also handle JPEG, WMA, MP3, and other media formats.
Bottom Line
The Sharp LC-60LE925UN is expensive but it is important to remember that the display is fully equipped with cutting edge technologies and Internet features. It is one of the very few models that include 3D glasses and a wireless USB. In fact, there are 2 pairs of 3D glasses making this 3D experience totally out of the box. All you need is a 3D Blu-ray player and some content and you are all set.
Actual user review:
“Awesome TV, great manufacturer. I had been researching for a couple of months, even going to several high end stores to see and compare different manuf of 60″ screens. I got lucky in that the same movie segment was playing on all of them, so I could compare apples to apples. The brightness of the picture on the Sharp Quatron is what sold me. The added yellow not only makes the colors pop, but small details in movies can be seen. Beware, when connecting the HDMI cable to this TV, the picture does not come on immediately. There is a 5 to 10 second delay. I started changing settings and still couldn’t get a picture, so I called Sharp’s help number and within a couple of minutes I had a picture. The tech spoke clear english and gave concise directions, the way service should be. For sport fans, one thing to keep in mind, 240hz only works during 3D use, which is true for all comparable models. I haven’t used the 3D mode, but we will soon. “ – Dean C. Deleon (USA)
