Sony KDL-46Z4100
Look no further than the Sony KDL46Z4100 for an unbelievably stunning and realistic 46 inch HDTV Sony has to offer. This is one HDTV that will definitely not bore viewers to death and send them to sleep, not when they can have many of the advanced features of its more expensive cousins, the XBR models. As always, Sony delivers on the goods and what goods these are!
The Beauty Without
With a remarkably slim bezel design, Motionflow™ 120Hz for the reproduction of smooth, lifelike images, BRAVIA Engine 2™ and ACE for deeper blacks and crisp shadow detail, this TV’s sensational design is only matched by its picture. It is available in piano black and brushed metal, both of which boast of an impressive one-inch wide bezel and beveled corners that amazingly looks like a modern picture frame once mounted in-wall. Of course, the very slim bezel allows for larger screen on wall spaces.
Fortunately for the style conscious, the all-black, no-fuss treatment allows for sleek design elements that transcend style fads. There are design accents to break the all-black monotony like the Sony logo, the stereo speakers, and the on-display controls, which only adds to the physical appeal of the whole setup.
Unlike other HDTV of its kind, the Sony Bravia Z-Series KDL-46Z4100 boasts of non-glossy screens that allows for excellent viewing even in well-lit environments. It goes without saying that Sony’s non-reflective screens are superior to most other brands in the market.
As an added safety feature, the TV stand has a screw-hole that allows the unit to be anchored to whatever it is placed on – perfect for when you have kids and pets around.
Overall, the Sony Bravia Z-Series KDL-46Z4100 is a thing of beauty that everybody would admire. There might be some issues with the remote control, though. Since it is a basic universal remote, it does tend to be on the clunky side but if you can put up with that, you will love its excellent range and responsiveness, tactile feedback, and ergonomic design. After all, when it comes to remotes, these qualities are what matters most!
Actual user review:
“I have had a Westinghouse 1080p 42inch monitor for a few years and have really been pleased with it. However, with the new features on the market (120hz, 24p, etc) I was ready to upgrade. I sure am glad that I found Bravia Z series! Without going up to an XBR, the Z series is the way to go. If you look at the specs – most of the high end features offered by the XBR are already in the Z series, so it is a really good value. I have been extremely impressed with both the blacks on this LCD as well as the vivid colors it produces. The amount of picture calibration offered on this setup is remarkable – especially compared to my old Westinghouse. I find the 24p mode on Blu Ray disk to be quite impressive – it really adds a whole new level of enjoyment to watching Blu Ray movies. The 120hz mode is also wonderful when watching football. I really cannot say enough good things about this TV – spend the extra money that the Sony brand demands, and you get what you pay for.” – H.EHorns (Austin, TX)
The Beast Within
Of course, it is a good kind of beast. The picture quality is excellent on an overall level though some defects like smearing details in dark backgrounds and ghosting artifacts in red can be detected. Still, the colors are more natural, the images more detailed, and the motions sharper due to the 10-bit color processor combined with a 10-bit panel. The 10-bit panel creates 64 times the levels of expression versus 8-bit panels, resulting in smoother transitions from color to color and faithful reproduction of subtle color changes.
Its Motionflow 120hz technology applies just the right amount of adjustment to reduce motion blur, especially when you’re watching a football game! You have to see it to know the difference from the 60hz!
The best thing about the Sony Bravia Z-Series KDL-46Z4100? It’s actually the television for the future! Its DMEx technology easily connects to current and future Sony products, which makes it very wise investment years from now what with obsolescence as the name of the game in consumer electronics.
Conclusion
The Sony KDL46Z4100 is certainly a capable performer, especially in terms of color accuracy and video processing although its black-level performance is not groundbreaking. With software updates, TV daily guides and more features than you can play with in one day, the Sony Bravia Z-Series KDL-46Z4100 is value for your money. Now, if only everybody can shell out the money for two of these beautiful behemoths they probably will avert fights over the remote!
- “Having recently upgraded from an off-brand HDTV to the Sony Bravia Z-Series, I now see everything that I was missing. The picture is amazing, and the 120Hz MotionFlow technology works very well to eliminate the annoying artifacts from fast action scenes. I am very pleased with my new home theater set-up and would highly recommend the Z-Series to anyone who wants XBR performance at a bargain price!” – C. Rea (USA)
- “We ordered this TV from Amazon after returning a Samsung. This TV looks great and sounds great out of the box. We are not techie type people so we do not have it hooked to any additional sound and it is fine. We returned the Samsung because the sound was terrible, even with additional sound equipment. We are very happy with this tv. Amazon’s delivery service was great.” – (Kim Portland, ME)
- “We picked up this TV through an online seller but did our homework at brick and mortar sellers. The Sony Z series 46Z4100, when compared with other products, is a superior product. Glare is nearly non-existent. This set, when compared to XBR series sets has all but one “check” on the features table provided by Sony and its value to feature ratio is unbelievable. The picture is crisp but not garish, even when set on factory setting for home viewing. We are extremely pleased with this product and have yet to be disappointed with a Sony product.” – User review from Sonystyle.com
