First of all, the Motionflow PRO 240Hz refresh rate helps to eliminate any traces of motion blur that may be present in fast-action video contents. In addition to that, Sony’s 24p True Cinema technology ensures a high-fidelity reproduction of 24fps film-based content. It also boasts a Dynamic Edge LED Backlight with full array local dimming. The TV is equipped with Sony’s Bravia Engine 3 Technology which reduces any image noise to ensure superior image details and vibrant colors.

Connectivity

Internet connection can be easily established by the TV via cable or wirelessly. This would allow you access online video contents from sites such as Youtube and Netflix. The BRAVIA Internet Video is one of the best IPTV services available currently with a huge you can choose from. The BRAVIA Internet Widgets also hooks you up conveniently to sites such as Twitter so that you can stay connected to friends while watching television.

Actual user review:
“I have had my Sony KDL46NX810 for about a month. I have the 3D accessories, a Sony PlayStation 3 and a computer hooked to the TV. Most of the content I watch is on the internet over the computer, streaming Netflix, and Amazon Video on Demand. The 3D effect is a novelty. Once the new wears off I will put the 3D glasses in a draw and forget about them. I wish I purchased a less expensive TV that does not have 3D. Other than my disappointment with 3D, I am quite happy with the TV.” – R. Schueler (Ohio, USA)

Performance

The 3D performance of the KDL46NX810 is fantastic with little ghosting even when it is pushed to the max. You could almost feel as if you were at the cinema watching the 3D film. The depth of field is excellent and some of the pop-up effects found in 3D movies came up naturally. However, you must sit upright in a proper position while you are watching 3D. Any other position would negate most of the 3D effects and the 3D glasses won’t be able to sync well with the TV. The conversion of 2D to 3D is not as great as it sounds. There is a surreal feel to the images and it tends to be hard on the eyes if you watched them for any extended period of time.

Even without the 3D capability, the KDL46NX810 functions just as superb as a 2D HDTV. It requires very little adjustments out of the box to achieve the ideal color production, and accurate brightness. Setup is easy and you can enjoy the TV very quickly with some simple picture adjustments. It also had no problem in handling the subtle variations in black levels. The quality of the pictures on the screen produced from a blu-ray disc is absolutely stunning. Motion handling was very good and movies in both the DVD and Blu-Ray formats, thanks to the 240Hz refresh rate. You will be impressed on how well the TV handles sports actions and fast sequence movies involving lots of martial arts and movements. Coupled with its 3D capability, watching next-generation TV channels such as ESPN 3D is also a breeze.

The sound quality however is not as impressive with its picture quality. It is good enough only for basic TV programmes such as news and weather reports. There is practically no bass coming out from the speakers. If you really want to get the full audio experience from a blockbuster, it is recommended that you get an external sound system to complement with the excellent visual quality of the TV.

The menu system in the TV is very easy to navigate. If you are a regular user of the Playstation 3, you will find the menu system to be very familiar. The BRAVIA Sync feature incorporated inside makes integration with other Sony products seamless. There are no problems in connecting to the Internet via cable or wireless. The built-in Wi-Fi adapter in the TV is certainly an extremely useful addition which is not present in the older Sony models. You will only need to follow some simple on-screen instruction to get connected right away to the Wi-Fi hotspot in your house. In order to obtain the best results for online video streaming, it is recommended that you have a good broadband connection.

Conclusion

The KDL46NX810 is the perfect marriage of both beauty and performance. It will definitely look good in your living room and it has all the important features that you would want in a 3D HDTV. The superior video processor in the TV is impressive. Nearly every video that you watch through it is automatically enhanced a level higher. There are very little 3D HDTV models in the market currently that can challenge it in terms of its performance. All in all, it is a fantastic set that you should invest on if you are looking to upgrade or get a new TV.

From the moment you take it out of the box you have to like the look of this tv. The front panel is all glass–no plastic bezel around the outside. It is a handsome tv. It is also quite heavy.
I installed it on the included base and it sits on a low bookcase. It does swivel and the base install instructions give some cryptic indication that it tilts 6 degrees. Not sure about that one and I didn’t try to force it. Right out of the box the picture is very good. Setup is easy and with some very simple picture adjustments you will be enjoying your tv. ”

I was watching E.T. on cable in 1080i HD last night and it was like watching a completely new movie. The picture was so lifelike I felt like I was right there. Newly produced TV shows in HD are freakishly real-looking. It’s almost unnerving. I’m a professional photographer so I did a little bit of custom setup on the video to get it just right, but it was good right out of the box.” – Richard S. Lee (Charleston, WV USA)

The features on this TV are great. Internet video is convenient and gives many options of online content viewing from hulu plus, Amazon video, Netflix, YouTube etc… The fact that you don’t have to buy an adapter to access the internet is also a nice feature as Sony has built in wi-fi to the TV. One caveat to its connectivity is that the TV widgets are sometimes finicky as they take a long time to load, or even at times fail to load at all. Although this is annoying, it’s not something that irks me. Ports are plenty on the TV: 4 HDMI, digital optical, however if you do plan on using analog video (the red, white and yellow connectors) there is not a spot for them. You’d have to run them from traditional cable. Not an issue as this technology is now obsolete.” – Daniel Marcoux (CT)
