Sony KDL-60NX810
The Sony KDL-60NX810 is part of the latest series of 3D HDTVs that the company has launched in late 2010. It has the biggest screen size of 60-inch out of the three variants in the market, the other two being 55-inch and 46-inch. The design of the TV is sleek and modern. Its monolithic style is also aesthetically pleasant to the eye. The glossy black and ultra-thin bezel around the screen gives it the look and feel of a superior high-end product. It is interesting to note that the buttons do not clutter the front of the TV and the frontal appearance is flawlessly clean.

Features
The Sony KDL-60NX810 has the capability of displaying full HD 1080p content up to the maximum resolution of 1920×1080. It is fitted with the Motionflow PRO 240Hz refresh rate technology to reduce any motion blur that may be present in video contents. The TV is equipped with Sony’s Bravia Engine 3 Technology which reduces any image noise to ensure superior image details and vibrant colors. It also boasts a Dynamic Edge LED Backlight with full array local dimming. The advance video settings menu is also available and it allows you to adjust the Auto Light Limiter, LED Dynamic Control, Black Corrector, Gamma, Clear White, Live Color and White Balance. In addition to that, Sony’s 24p True Cinema technology ensures a high-fidelity reproduction of 24fps film-based content.
The KDL60NX810 is 3D-capable but the 3D Active Glasses and the 3D Sync Transmitter are sold separately. A 3D-capable Blu-ray player or compatible cable or satellite box is needed to feed the TV with 3D content. 3D settings can be adjusted accordingly by controlling the brightness or the depth of the 3D image that appears on the screen. You can also simulate 2D images as 3D. This would be a useful feature to use as there is currently a limited amount of native 3D contents in the market.
“We have been without HD, as our old Pioneer Elite (purchased about 1995) died some years ago and then we used a hand-me-up Sony from one of our sons until making a deliberate move into current technology. WOW, this TV is unbelievable. The picture is stunning: bright, high contrast, true-to-color. It really stood above all the other TVs at the highish end store. We used the self supporting stand that the set comes with for our installation. This TV comes equipped with internal WiFi so I have it synced with our home WiFi net (AirPort). We can now stream NetFlix and it is flawless.” – Lionel (USA)
Connectivity
There are four HDMI inputs and they can accept 480i, 480p, 720p (60/24Hz), 1080i, 1080p (60/24Hz) signals. The other two component video inputs can accept 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p signals. The rear-panel PC input allows you to make use of the TV as a giant 60″ computer monitor. There is also a USB port at the side to allow you to quickly connect other devices such as a laptop, an external hard drive or a portable MP3 player. Its DNLA compatibility would mean that you could play a variety of media formats such as JPEG, AVCHD, AVC, MPEG 1 and MP3.
One of the most sought-after features of this TV is its ability to connect to the Internet. You can connect to the Internet either through the Ethernet port or wirelessly. BRAVIA Internet Video allows you to stream hundreds of media content from the Internet and includes applications such as Netflix and Youtube. BRAVIA Internet Widgets also allow you to personalize your viewing experience by positioning, selecting and resizing widgets on your screen.
Performance
The KDL60NX810 require very little adjustments out of the box to achieve the ideal color production, and accurate brightness. It had no problem in handling the subtle variations in black levels. The brightness and contrast settings also didn’t seem to have an effect on the accurate production of black levels. This is a very good indicator of a superior video processor. Bright greens were vibrant, but not overblown while reds were more rich and stable. This balance to the color production helps to bring the image to life. The remote control is fairly easy to use although it’s a little strange that Sony chose to put the power button on the underside.
The quality of the pictures on the screen produced from a blu-ray disc is absolutely stunning. You don’t have to be videophile to find that the graphic performance of this TV has exceeded expectations. The Motionflow PRO 240Hz refresh rate technology did its job well in dealing with the motion blur caused by fast action scenes. You will be very impressed to find videos of martial arts or sport actions to be exceptionally fluid. The sound quality is decent but you’ll need to invest in a good external sound system for a wholesome audio experience to go along with the great visual experience. You may find that the ideal spot of the TV’s audio to be unusual because unless you sit directly in front of the Sony logo, you will only hear things coming out from one side of the speakers.
The 3D technology may still be developing but that didn’t hinder the KDL60NX810 from delivering a top performance for its 3D feature. The experience of watching a 3D movie on the TV is very satisfying as the 3D effects were beautifully reproduced with a good depth of field. Sony’s very own brand of 3D Glasses are comfortable to be worn over a long period of time. In addition to that, it can fit nicely with your personal glasses if you wear them. However, it must be noted that that it is often difficult to position more than two people in the optimal spot to watch the 3D content from the TV. If you watch a 3D movie away from the optimal angle, you will find that the images don’t sync properly with the 3D glasses. If you are an avid gamer, you will be pleased to know that the TV is capable of handling intense graphic requirements from console platforms such Playstation 3. Next generation 3D games like Gran Turismo 5 and Motorstorm 3D Drift performs smoothly in its 3D gaming mode.
Conclusion
The KDL60NX810 certainly deserves praise in terms of its functionality and beautiful design. This is truly a HDTV which can be considered as a top quality product from Sony. The superior video processor that it possesses is something which sets it apart from the other 3D HDTVs in the market. It’ll definitely be an excellent addition to your living room.
Actual User Reviews:
• “I recieved my Bravia KDL60NX810 just over a week ago and can not say enough good things. It replaced a Sony 52″ W series and the difference is very very noticable. Vivid colorful images, no noticable motion blur. This is my 5th HD TV from Sony and by far the nicest. I have not used all the features like the WIFI or 3D but from a picture standpoint this TV is just amazing. I would recommend this set to anyone looking for a high end LED.” – S. B. Woolley (Durham, NC)
• “Back in 2009 I bought a Panasonic Viera plasma at Costco. And the plasma was a very good tv. It got me hooked on plasmas! And I truly thought I was gonna buy a Panasonic 3D plasma. After reading some reviews on how the plasmas are much dimmer than the led lcd tvs especially with the 3D glasses, I decided to go with led lcd tvs. And I gotta say, I am Very impressed! Despite the Hz being much lower than my plasma, I can’t tell a difference! The picture quality is SUPERB!!! The colors and life like images are just amazing!!! And the 3D is outstanding! Couldn’t be happier with my purchase, and I’m sticking with Sony when it comes to TVs!!!” – L. Shepard (USA)
