The Toshiba REGZA 52RV535U incorporates the SRT Super Resolution Technology that supports up-converting of resolutions and enhances 480p and 720p inputs. The end result makes them look like 1080p. SRT does a better job than the regular sharpness control and cleaned up the overall picture especially from non Hi-Def sources. Regular DVDs and TV channels will be displayed in near High Definition picture quality. Native mode is also supported to avoid any unnecessary scaling of 1080p signals.

In addition to the good upscaling, various picture enhancement technologies are also included like AutoView which uses automatically adjusts the picture quality settings based on the content and room lighting and the DynaLight Backlight Control which monitors and adjusts the backlight intensity of each frame resulting to better deep black transitions. This mode makes gaming a whole lot better by decreasing the time it takes for signals to travel from the controller to the TV.

On the connectivity side, the 52RV535U comes with an adequate 4 HDMI ports, a 15 pin D-Sub, 2 Component Video inputs, S-Video and 2 AV composite inputs. It would have been nice however if this model had a USB port or SD card.

The audio quality of the 52RV535U is decent with the SoundStrip Speaker System that it uses. The thin speaker designs give it a nice touch to the overall look of the TV while still delivering good home theater quality sound. When watching normal television, the StableSound feature eliminates the annoyance of normal program volume being followed immediately by extremely loud commercial messages or drastic volume fluctuations while changing channels. This is something every TV should have!

Conclusion

For a 52 inch HDTV priced at less than $1,500 after discounts, the Toshiba REGZA 52RV535U is an excellent bargain and it doesn’t come naked either. Plenty of neat features and technologies make this an excellent value and great for home cinema viewing and serious gaming. It does lack a few of the advanced features that the other REGZA models have, but the picture and sound quality are pretty much up to par. Other TV’s in that price range are either smaller or have fewer features than the Toshiba REGZA 52RV535U. This LCD TV is a great overall choice for people seeking home cinema quality without spending too much as long as their room is well lit.
